Creating an Internal Workspace for Meaning
An Improbable Conversation
Every night we live a second life while dreaming. Supervised self-analysis of dreams allows for the discovery of a fruitful harvest of emotional experience. Creativity can be appreciated and integrated through the observation of the evolution of dream life. Some psychotherapists, psychoanalysts, meditation practitioners, artists, writers, or scientists may find a disciplined practice of dream collection and facilitated conversation invaluable as a stimulus to both personal and professional growth. My approach to investigating dream life is exploratory not explanatory. Dream life opens a window to psychic reality and to the complex interactions between self, other, and world. Dream life is the raw material for learning from emotional experience.
This form of mentoring is not psychotherapy, but it may have deep therapeutic benefits. It requires a capacity for self-discipline, self-assessment, self-reflection, and self-expression. Each of these capacities will be expanded and deepened through an on-going process of dream exploration. Meetings take place weekly or more frequently. Participants are required to record their dreams and engage in a form of self-analysis as well as reporting their dreams for discussion. Over time an aesthetic-ethical process evolves wherein the harvest of dream realization infuses the choices and action of being in the world.

CreativityAttention to dream life amplifies trust in one's own internal process of creativity. Exploration of dream life can enhance trust in your imagination, intuition, and integration of body, speech, and mind.

WisdomThere are two forms of courage needed to explore dream life. First, the courage to find out what you are really experiencing. Second, to risk the frustration of trying to represent and communicate your most intimate inner experience to a respectful curious listener. Gradually you will become familiar with an inner presence that can welcome thoughts in search of a thinker.
